Printing
Dies of different materials including metal and rubber dies are used in
different printing techniques. These dies are used to create an imprint
on various substrates and also ensure good printing.Types of Printing Dies
- Engraving Dies: These printing dies are
generally made of copper and steel. These dies can be used a number
of times and last for a long time. The process involves application
of ink across the die, which is then stamped onto the paper for
formation of image, graphics etc. Chemically etched copper and zinc
dies are used for a number of applications including hot foil
stamping, letterpress printing, foil embossing, label printing to
name a few.
- Embossing Dies: These dies are generally made
of brass or copper and sometimes magnesium is used for lower end
printing. These dies can also be used for multiple number of times
and can last for a long time. Magnesium dies are however, generally
used for short run due to high wear and tear. Two dimensional
effects can be created on various substrates using this die.
- Foil Stamping Dies: These printing dies are
also made using brass, copper and magnesium. These dies are used for
flat printing on foil and thus do not provide a raised image as in
case of other dies. The foil is transferred through application of
heat and pressure. These dies are used for hot stamping, letter
press printing etc.
- Steel Rule Dies: These printing dies are widely used for die cutting in letter press printing technique. These dies cut the paper in the same shape as the shape of the die. A cutting steel rule is placed in the die, where the metal is sharp enough to cut through paper on application of pressure.
