Printing
ink in itself is a global industry. There are various types of water
based and solvent based inks depending on the printing technique they
are being used for. Printing inks can be broadly classified into inks
used for conventional printing techniques and inks for digital non
impact printing used for ink jet and other technologies.Types of Printing Inks
- Screen Printing Inks: These inks are used for
printing a large number of products and surfaces including signs,
POP displays, vehicle graphics, automotive panels, graphic overlays,
credit cards, optical discs, textiles.
- Digital Printing Inks: UV curing inks are
widely used in inkjet printers, these inks are solvent based inks
used in digital printing. These inks are useful in printing on
almost any substrate be it rigid or flexible.
- Flexographic Inks: These inks are made with
cellulose-acetate-propionate ester resin, which is soluble in
alcohol. These inks are used for various applications.
- Offset Printing Inks: These inks are free from
water soluble particles and contain certain varnish or lacquers as a
binding medium.
- Gravure Printing Inks: These specialty inks are widely used for flexible packaging and laminating. These inks are toluene soluble products with low viscosity and used for finer quality printing. Gravure inks should be non-abrasive and free from grit.
