The printing process of this machine is quite similar to a direct thermal printer. The thermal print head provides the heat necessary to form an image on the paper. The print head and thermal ribbon transfer ribbon in these machines is wide enough to cover the entire width of the media including paper, fabric to be printed upon. The process includes heating a waxy substance which melts onto a ribbon, which in turn melts on to the paper to form desired images. The process is also known as thermal ink transfer printing.
